Yuvaan recently fell sick. He had fever on and off for five days. One minute he was fine and next minute he was warm, vomiting, irritated, and crying. The five days of fever were like a nightmare for us. He was just not taking his medications, was drowsy plus super clingy. His nose was blocked and he was coughing. None of us (Y, S, and I) slept properly for 4 nights. But this time rather than focusing on what happened and how it happened, I would share what helped me get pass it. Here is a list:
➡️ Have patience and a lot of it.
➡️ Consult the pediatrician ASAP and abide by what he/she suggests. Do not just do not start your gharelu ilaj and delay the doctor visit.
➡️ The baby will be clingy and cranky so put everything aside and focus on the baby. Every other thing can wait. Cradle him, comfort him, hug him.
➡️ Babies hate medicines. They will sometimes throw up immediately after the dose. So, use a dropper or medicine dispenser to give medicine. Dispense the medicine at the end of their inner cheek. I tried and tested it, it reduces the chances of throwing up drastically.
➡️ Keep biscuits, crocin, water, and saline handy for the sleepless nights.
➡️ Babies won't let you use thermometer either so try measuring their fever while changing their clothes or you can pretend to change (this gives an open access to their underarm); distract them with their favorite cartoon.
➡️ Steam inhalation and warm water helps. You can also use a humidifier, it moisturises the air.
➡️ Try to keep the baby hydrated.
➡️ A sick baby would hate eating so offer small portions and do not force feed. If they don't have stomach issues, serve their favorites. They usually start eating normally once they start feeling well.
➡️ Take all the help you need. Taking care of a sick baby can be a lot.
➡️ Be aware of the warning signs like absence of alertness, excessive drowsiness, and continuous vomiting/diarrohea. Consult the pediatrician immediately in such scenarios.
➡️ Remember that this too shall pass and you can do it.
Y is recovering, he seems back to his normal self (touchwood). On the contrary, S and I have a sore throat now and Y is not interested in taking care of us 😂.
Hope this helps. Take care. Stay safe.
