Yuvi's Mundan Chronicle

It's a ritual in us Punjabis to perform mundan a.k.a. tonsure ceremony on the second Dussehra of baby's life. This Dussehra was Yuvi's second. We started planning the ceremony way in advance because of the COVID chaos. No one was invited, It was just us plus Yuvi's paternal grand parents. We requested a known-trustworthy barber to come and chop his hair. Sumit and I knew that Yuvi is going to cry inconsolably during the ceremony. That's what kids do. We were mentally prepared for that. We had a plan in mind to process the things smoothly. So, before the barber arrived, we made Yuvi sit on his high chair and made him watch his favorite rhymes on Youtube. We thought that way he will be distracted and the barber will be able to run the trimmer in no time. For those who don't know, the mundan is performed in 2 phases: in first phase, the barber run a trimmer through the hair and in second phase he runs a ustara to clean the remaining hair. Yuvi sat and watched the r...

The Story of my Son's Birth

I had a wonderful pregnancy with very little complains. I was working the whole time, had super caring colleagues at work, and an amzingly supportive family back home. Above all that, i had an always-smiling, knowledgeable, and comforting gynaecologist. I never actually worried about the delivery part until 38 weeks of gestation period but after that i was always panicking, overthinking, or crying.  I did not have any labor pains until almost 40 weeks. Since baby and I both were getting huge, my doctor suggested to induce labor. Frankly, i was way too scared to deliver my baby vaginally and just wanted to get it done by c-section. People who really know me, know that i am not good friends with "patience" but "impulsiveness" is my best buddy. But, since my doctor had faith and suggested so, i decided to get induced. We left home totally prepared. My husband and mother in law accompanied me. We were cracking jokes all the way, i was nervous but just wanted to get don...

Survival of the Fittest

We live in a nuclear set up, its me-my husband (referred as S) and our 16 months old super naughty toddler (referred as Y). When Y was born, S and I had an ideal parenting picture in mind but while Y was bidding adieu to his baby year, we realized that he is the boss and all we can do is SURVIVE. The feeling of being on the back seat striked when he started to toddle with his little feet. He wanted to go out and explore and we had no choice but to follow. Toddlers deal with a tsunami of emotions just like us adults, the difference is this that we adults can be vocal about it and the little humans can only throw a tantrum and cry uncontrollably. Anyway, initially Y was happy exploring and we were happy following until he started exploring all the things which theoretically he was not supposed to touch. There started our babyproofing saga. Babyproofing went fine practically but emotionally it was haunting for little Y to not be able to do his favorite pranks. Hence, we came up with a pl...

Introduction

Motherhood is subjective. We all love our children but we raise them differently. We all appear in this test unprepared. Our ideologies and methods differ but we all hope the best for our children. Motherhood has no pause, there is no off button either. It strikes you when you see that small kidney bean on the USG machine and you hear their pounding heart for the first time. And then with each passing day your love for them increases multifolds. Motherhood changes us in the ways we could never imagine. It brings out the best and sometimes the worst in us. Motherhood is magical.  When i thought to get back to writing, i found my mama-tales the only thing which are never ending and can be shared unfiltered. You may or may not learn something from it but you will atleast feel good thinking that there is someone going through the same cliche mama-hood struggles and fun. I hope you enjoy reading the blogs as much as i enjoy creating them. Cheers!
